Free illustrated talks as part of the Wilberforce trails exhibition Free illustrated talks John Doy - in America. The story of a Hull-born man, active along the Underground Railway in the USA. An illustrated talk from Shiela Coates of Hedon. and Alex Shaw Inspired by stories along the Trail Ceramics student at Hull College has created imaginative and challenging constructions which connect Hull as a point of safety along the routes of escape from poverty and tyranny to freedom. When slavery itself was finally abolished in 1833, over £20,000,000 had to be paid by the British Government in compensation to the slave owners
