PlayWrite Festival 07

To mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade, nine associated Hull Truck Theatre writers have each been challenged to write a 20 minute plays.

The plays will be in response to “Pride, Freedom, Belief and Change;” the four principles adopted as the Wilberforce commemorative logo by Hull City Council.

Each night, three of these new plays will premiere, performed by a talented company of Hull Truck regulars. Following the example set by Hull legend William Wilberforce, our writers will take the challenge of inspiring a positive change in people’s lives today.

Directors: Nick Lane and Steven Jon Atkinson.

The event runs until Thursday 28th June.

A warning from History

When slavery itself was finally abolished in 1833, over £20,000,000 had to be paid by the British Government in compensation to the slave owners
