Fairtrade Fortnight

Educational and community-based events celebrating and promoting fairtrade issues.

The Fairtrade Foundation co-ordinates the national two week long campaign to promote Fairtrade goods in UK. As a Fairtrade City, Hull takes part in this campaign and we expect 40 to 50 events to take place from Monday 26th February to Sunday 11th March. For full details visit the Fairtrade Hull website

Special Events in Hull for Fairtrade Fortnight 2007.

The Hull Fairtrade City Project, sponsored by Hull City Council and Hull One World Shop, has invited Fairtrade Cocoa Farmers from the Kuapa Kokoo co-operative in Ghana, to come to Hull.

Kuapa Kokoo is a farmers’ co-operative set up following the liberalisation of the cocoa market in Ghana. Starting with just a small number of farmers the co-operative has grown to become a model industry.

Kuapa Kokoo is a major shareholder / part owner of the innovative UK based Divine Chocolate Company ensuring that the maximum benefits from our favourite treat, chocolate, flow back to the farmers in Ghana.

Many benefits have stemmed from this including schoolrooms, village based clean water supplies, infrastructure improvements, financing

In conjunction with Divine Chocolate and Kuapa Kokoo, a series of events will take place on 1st, 2nd, 3rd March 2007.

A warning from History

When slavery itself was finally abolished in 1833, over £20,000,000 had to be paid by the British Government in compensation to the slave owners
