Fundraiser Launched To Aid Family Of UT-Austin Student Who Died

AUSTIN, TX — A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist the family of a University of Texas at Austin student who fell to his death last weekend from a fourth-floor apartment.

Lawrence Ray Emanuel III fell some 40 feet early Sunday from a student housing complex dubbed the Texan Tower. Officials are now investigating the matter as an accidental death. Emanuel was a senior in the College of Education.

A woman named Lydia Breedlove identifying herself as a UT-Austin student and longtime friend of Emanuel launched a GoFundMe campaign to help his mother deal with funeral costs and other expenses associated with her son’s death.

"I am raising this money in order to help his family with funeral costs, and any other cost that arises during this difficult time," Breedlove wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Though I am raising the money, his mom will be the one making withdrawals so she can use it whenever and on whatever expense come up."


Breedlove described her late friend as "….a very loved young man who will be missed by his family and friends."

At last check, the GoFundMe drive had raised $22,636 of a $25,000 goal. GoFundMe is a Patch promotional partner.
